The Tower of Agios Petros was built during the Hellenistic period and it is the best preserved ancient monument of Andros island. It took its name from the village of Agios Petros, which is near the tower, only 12 km away from the Mare e Vista Epaminondas Hotel.
The reason that this tower was built is still unknown, but it is assumed to have been an observatory, overlooking the sea as far as the islands of Kea, Siros and Kithnos. Another theory says that it has been the basis of an army.
