Today this castle, Mesa Kastro (Inner Castle) in Chora is deserted, however until 1943 it was kept in a very good condition, before it was bombarded and destroyed. It is one of the most important monuments of Andros Island. It was built by the Venetian Marino Dandolo, upon conquering the island. The Venetian style of the Mesa Kastro (Inner Castle), the towers and fighter’s blocks are now in ruins. You can still see and even climb the rocky bridge that connected the watchtower with the small part of land on which the Kato Kastro (Lower castle), the medieval state, was built.
